Small Catamaran Hull Design: Tow Tank + Multiphase CFD

Instrumented, tow-tank-tested modular hull paired with multiphase CFD at up to 75% lower compute cost.

Small hulls don’t behave like scaled-down big ones. I built a modular resin-printed catamaran instrumented with an MPU-6050 and long-range XBee telemetry, tested it in a tow tank, and paired that with steady-state multiphase CFD in ANSYS Fluent (SST k-omega, y+ ~0.6–1.5, hybrid hex/tet mesh, mesh-independence study).

Redesigning the bow to cut water ingress and drag brought stable, mesh-independent drag prediction at up to 75% lower compute cost.
