The problem
The Quantum Nuova is QT Sense’s quantum-sensing instrument. It uses fluorescent nanodiamond sensors to measure stress in living cells in real time. It needs sub-microliter volumes of liquid placed automatically and in the right place.
Approach
I built an automated liquid-handling subsystem that integrates a peristaltic pump with a Physik Instrumente (PI) piezo XY stage. The stage’s position sensor resolves 10 nm.
My contribution
I built and integrated the subsystem.
